ABOUT US

ABOUT US

WE ARE THE CHRIS KLUG FOUNDATION!

Each day, thousands of people – people just like you – are waiting for a second chance at life. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share our mission to educate and inspire others about the importance of organ and tissue donation registration, to eliminate the wait for those here at home and around the US

OUR MISSION

  • Chris Klug Foundation advocates for organ and tissue donation, and inspires those touched by transplantation.

  • Through our programs we reach tens of thousands of young people each year, equipping them with facts about organ donation so they can make educated decisions.

  • The Chris Klug Foundation is committed to operating to the highest standards of accountability.

WHAT WE DO

INSPIRE

The Chris Klug Foundation seeks to inspire people to register to be organ donors and to give inspiration and hope to those who are on the waitlist or have already received a transplant.

EDUCATE

The Chris Klug Foundation educates people from across the United States about the importance of registering to be an organ donor. We reach people from 9-90 years old through our events, educational curriculum, and volunteer opportunities.

REGISTER

The Chris Klug Foundation educates and inspires people across the United States to REGISTER to become an organ donor and to help save lives.

HISTORY

Chris founded the Chris Klug Foundation in 2003. Today we reach tens of thousands of young people by INSPIRING, EDUCATING and REGISTERING people.

Chris Klug is a three-time Olympic snowboarder and the only organ transplant recipient to win a medal in any Olympics. After receiving a liver transplant in 2000 to treat primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare degenerative condition, he was back on the slopes in four months.
After receiving a liver transplant in 2000 to treat primary sclerosing cholangitis, a rare degenerative condition, he was back on the slopes in four months and 9 months later brought home a medal from the Salt Lake City Olympics.

Chris Klug was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) in 1991, a rare degenerative bile duct condition. The only cure is a liver transplant. Chris was on the transplant waiting list for six years, three months at a critical state.
During that fragile time he vowed that if he made it through, he would do everything he could to help make a difference for the thousands of individuals waiting for a second chance at life like he had. Finally, Chris received his lifesaving liver transplant July 28, 2000.
Only 18 months after his transplant Chris won a Bronze medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics! The following year Chris started this foundation to help save lives and promote a healthy, active life post transplant. Founded in October of 2003, The Chris Klug Foundation is dedicated to promoting lifesaving organ and tissue donation and improving the quality of life for those touched by donation.
